Nalini and the Nadkarni Lab were featured in The Urban Activist to showcase the work of the STEM Community Alliance Program (STEMCAP) – started by Nadkarni in 2017. With the collaboration from other campus institutions like the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and funding from the Utah State Board of Education, the program has been able to bring science education to Youth in Custody across the Salt Lake Valley. Nalini receives NAT Prize from the Museum of Natural Sciences in Barcelona

On October 27, 2021, Nalini Nadkarni received the NAT Prize from the Museum of Natural Sciences in Barcelona. This award is given each year to a scientist who has done excellent scientific work and who has also disseminated research to the public in innovative ways. Nadkarni received the award at a ceremony led by the Mayor of Barcelona and interacted with other Catalonian scientists, public audiences, and high school groups during her visit.
